Joy Stick

Finally got my Logitech Rumblepad 2 out of the drawer today - it took a while to get it up and running. Seems there's a button combo to press when you change the darned batteries. It's been months since I've used it. My little ones wanted their own little gaming fix and I was happy to reintroduce to them my gamepad.
As soon as they had their fill, it was daddy's turn: Burnout Paradise.
NIRVANA.
Nothing beats Road Rage mode with Avril Lavigne's "Girlfriend" blaring in the background.
GAME ON!

iPadded out

I just watched Steve Jobs's keynote about his latest baby, the iPad 2.
Barely 12 months after the 1st gen iPad came out, here comes the latest and greatest edition of Apple's new flagship product. Apple claims it's a complete upgrade and not just a design tweak here and there. Noticeable is the introduction of front and rear facing cameras and the native apps of Facetime and Photobooth. Those alone are dealmakers for some hardcore Apple fans.
If you're curious to see the launch, you can view the Youtube version here:

Props to Steve Jobs for still being an enigmatic and entertaining figure on stage. He had my full attention for over an hour online!
I'm still not completely sold on the latest "magical" product from Apple, though I have to admit it is still pretty cool (gadget envy) and competitors are still struggling to catch up with it.
I'll wait it out until they figure out how to get Flash and VLC on the darned thing.

The 11 Golden Rules of Shoe Care
Interesting article taken from the Besa's Shoes website:When the shoemaker ceremonially hands over a new pair of shoes to their owner, at the moment when a unique work of art passes from artist to purchases, the shoemaker also initiates him into the secrets of shoe care. The life expectancy and appearance of new custom-made shoes depends on the quality of materials used and the expertise of the shoemaker, certainly, but they also depend to a great extent on the care they receive from the wearer. Trying the shoes on and walking them for a few minutes will tell the customer whether they fit or not. If these qualities are to be preserved over an extended period, it is advisable to follow a few "golden rules":
1. New shoes should initially be worn for more than two or three hours at a time. Only when the shoes and the feet are completely accustomed to each other should the risk be taken of wearing them for a whole day.
2. A pair of shoes should not be worn on two successive days, but should be given 24 hours to recover after each wearing.
3. They should always be put on with a shoehorn, regardless of whether they are lace-ups, buckled shoes, or slip-ons.
4. When taking off lace-up shoes the laces should be loosened at every point, allowing the foot to slip out of the shoe easily and effortlessly.
5. Custom-made shoe trees must be in the shoes immediately after removal.
6. Shoe trees should be inserted immediately even if the shoes have been saturated with rain or snow. The shoes should then be left to dry, lying on their sides rather than standing on their soles, for at least 24 hours.
7. It is advisable to wipe the shoes down and polish them up with shoe cream after each wearing, even if they appear to have lost none of their original gleam.
8. If the shoes are not to be worn for an extended period, a thin coating of cream should be applied, a textile bag obtained from the shoemaker, and the shoes placed inside the original box, standing on their soles.
9. No owner of custom-made shoes should lend them to somebody else, for no two pairs of feet are the same.
10. Every new shoe has its own special character: its true beauty will not appear to its best advantage unless it is worn with appropriate clothing and on appropriate occasions.

Hello, Clarisse...

Just watched again Silence of the Lambs.
It is still a great flick to watch even if came out nearly 20 years ago! (1991) - Sir Anthony Hopkins is still clearly deserving of his Best Actor Award.
Truly one of the greatest thrillers ever made.
Hannibal the Cannibal is one character that will not easily be erased from your memory, especially the jailbreak scene.
*shudder*

KFC's Secret Recipe, REVEALED??!?!
One of the most well-kept secrets in the food industry,
second only to the formula of Coke,
finally revealed???

Please try it, and tell me if this comes close!!!
Meanwhile, for those who'd prefer The Original,
it seems that a local KFC restaurant
is on to our over-consumption of their 'soup'!

Outage = Outrage?

Today the usually reliable DSL connection we use at home decided to go pfft.
Now, normally I'd freak out and go ballistic about the matter. Surprisingly, I decided to call tech support after several debates with myself if I'll actually get anything accomplished talking to an agent.
After almost 15 minutes on hold (yep!), I finally got through to a very friendly "Mike". He was calm, collected and upfront - which was a pleasant surprise. Going through the usual tech support dialogue, it's clear that the problem is out of his hands: there's an outage in our area.
Now what?
I could have easily gone irate and asked for a supervisor but instead, I accepted my situation and decided to do something unusual:
I read a book.
Lesson learned: if you read a book, the internet will start working shortly. Duh.

Journey of a Journal

Surprise, surprise. I'm blogging about non-blogging!
About nearly a month ago, I've started journalizing. In this day and age of look-at-me-I'm-blogging, it's a nice and private change of pace to do a personal online journal.
My tool of choice is Penzu.com - it's free, fast and easy to use. Now I'm not going to do a full review on it. I'm just going to say that it's something for you to look into should you decide to explore the wonderful world of online journals.
Ah, my journal - convenient, intimate and cathartic. A great compliment to a public blog such as this! Try it and hopefully, it'll be a great experience for you as it is for me.
Ciao for now!

Reading

It's been a really long while since I've sat down again and curled up with a good book. The title is irrelevant. There's something truly liberating and exciting about picking up a paperback and sifting through the pages.
Here's to keeping print alive! Long live REAL books - I've never gotten hooked on the ebook trend, really!
Thanks to the Lentvaris City Library for the pic.
I Heart Ke$ha
I don't care if most people think she's a man or that she can't sing - she's my current muse. You go, girl!
